Emojis in Email Subjects: HubSpot Tip of the Week

HubSpot's email editor now allows you to add emojis to your subject lines. Why should you care? Well, according to a report by Experian, emails with emojis had a 56% higher unique open rate than their counterparts. Here's how you can use emojis to improve the performance of your email campaigns:

1. Accessing emojis

To add emojis to your email subjects, first go to the HubSpot email editor by going to Content>Email and then selecting the email you wish to edit. Once in the email editor,  click "Edit Details" towards the top of the screen.

Next, locate the emoji button to the right of the "Subject line" field and click on it. You will then be able to choose from hundreds of different emojis.

2. Using emojis effectively

While studies show that emojis can significantly increase the performance of your email campaigns, it's important to use them wisely. Here's a couple of things to keep in mind:

  1. Don't overuse them. Think carefully about your subject matter and demographic before using emojis. For example, a fashion boutique will likely have more opportunities to use emojis than an accounting firm.
  2. Keep it fresh. Experian's study reveals that using popular emojis, like hearts or smileys, is actually less effective than more unique ones.
  3. Know your audience. Think carefully about what emojis connect best with your audience.
